Media will not play smoothly

Use proxies

Heavy files, such as 4K, ProRes on Windows, or unusual formats, can be too much to play smoothly. Kaptcho can make a lighter copy for editing.

1. Right-click the clip and choose Make optimised media.
2. Wait for the small progress indicator to finish.
3. Play again. Editing now uses the lighter copy.

Your original is untouched, and export always uses the original.

Still stuttering?

• Close other heavy apps.
• Lower the viewer quality in the viewer menu.
• Move the media onto your computer's own drive. Playing from a slow external drive or a network folder is a common cause.

A clip is black

The format may be one that your system cannot show. Make optimised media, and it should play.

Sound but no picture, or the reverse

Try the same steps. If the file works in other programs but not here, email [email protected] and tell us the format.
