Magnetic timeline
The main storyline keeps your clips in order. Delete one and the rest close the gap. Insert one and the rest make room. Connect titles, cutaways and music to the clips they belong to, and they move together.
Keyframes
Add a keyframe, move forward, change a value. Kaptcho fills in the movement between. Pick ease in, ease out or linear for each one, and drag keyframes along the timeline to adjust the timing.
Colour and looks
Start with a look, then fine-tune with sliders, colour wheels and curves. A luma histogram shows you what the picture is really doing. Copy a grade from one clip and paste it onto the rest.
Text and titles
Add a title, choose a font, size, colour and shadow, and pick how it arrives and leaves. Titles are drawn once and reused for export, so what you see in the viewer is what you get in the file.
Captions from SRT and VTT
Import an SRT or VTT file and every line becomes a caption clip. Style them all at once, nudge the timing, or edit the words in place. Captions are drawn into the video when you export.
Speed and freeze frames
Change the speed of a clip from a tenth to ten times, play it backwards, or freeze the frame under the playhead. Audio follows the speed change, or you can mute it for a clean slow-motion shot.
Audio fades and loudness
See your sound as waveforms. Drag the fade handles, balance the levels, and pan voices left or right. Export can level the whole mix to a loudness target so it sounds right on the platform.
Transitions
Select the cut between two clips and choose a transition. Drag its edge to make it longer or shorter. Previews play in real time, and the export matches.
Proxies for heavy media
When a file is too heavy to play smoothly, Kaptcho makes a lighter copy in the background and uses it for editing. Your original is never touched, and the final export always comes from the original.
Hardware export
On a Mac Kaptcho uses VideoToolbox. On Windows and Linux it uses NVENC, Quick Sync or AMF when your machine has them. If not, it switches to software encoding on its own.
Presets for every network, and your own settings.
Custom export gives you size, frame rate from 23.976 to 120, H.264, HEVC, ProRes, VP9 or AV1, and audio as AAC, Opus or PCM. You can export audio only, too.
