Kaptcho will not open on Linux

AppImage permissions, missing libraries and the .deb package.

Updated 7 October 2026

AppImage will not start

Make it executable first:

chmod +x Kaptcho-*.AppImage

If you see a message about FUSE, install libfuse2 (on newer Ubuntu) or fuse on other systems. You can also run it without FUSE:

./Kaptcho-*.AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run

The .deb package

Use apt, not dpkg, so that libraries are fetched for you:

sudo apt install ./kaptcho_*.deb

Check your system

Kaptcho needs 64-bit Linux with glibc 2.31 or later. Check yours with:

ldd --version

Blank or black window

Update your graphics drivers. If you use Wayland and the window looks wrong, try an X11 session.
