Kaptcho will not open on a Mac

How to open an app that is not code-signed yet.

Updated 7 October 2026

Kaptcho is not code-signed yet, so macOS asks you to confirm before it opens it. Signing is coming soon. These steps work today.

Option 1: right-click Open

  1. Open Applications in Finder.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) Kaptcho and choose Open.
  3. Choose Open in the box.

Option 2: Open Anyway

  1. Try to open Kaptcho once, so macOS records it.
  2. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the message about Kaptcho and choose Open Anyway.
  4. Enter your password if asked, then choose Open.

Option 3: Terminal

If macOS still says the app is damaged, run this in Terminal. It removes the quarantine mark that downloads get.

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Kaptcho.app

Then open Kaptcho again.

Still stuck?

Check you are on macOS 11 or later. Then email [email protected].
