Install Kaptcho on Linux

Use the AppImage or the .deb package on 64-bit Linux.

Updated 7 October 2026

Kaptcho runs on 64-bit Linux with glibc 2.31 or later, such as Ubuntu 20.04 and newer. There are two downloads.

AppImage

Works on most distributions without installing anything.

chmod +x Kaptcho-*.AppImage
./Kaptcho-*.AppImage

You can also right-click the file, open Properties and tick Allow executing file as program. If it says it needs FUSE, install your distribution's fuse or libfuse2 package.

Debian and Ubuntu package

sudo apt install ./kaptcho_*.deb

Using apt with a path installs any libraries Kaptcho needs. Afterwards, open Kaptcho from your applications menu.

On first open, Kaptcho asks you to sign in with Viremail. See Sign in to Kaptcho.
